Day #8 – inside your wallet
The Little Man has been busting to play Monopoly this long weekend.
We all finally succumbed and it was game-on today. I was doing okay until I landed on Mayfair (with 3 houses – ack), which meant game over for me…
The game is still going strong as I type – shrieks of joy at going to jail, moans of “I’m going broke”, evil laughter and negotiations are in full-swing.
I used to enjoy monopoly – back when people played fair and treated it like a game. Now… people are too serious. They play dirty. It’s dangerous out there! Maybe it’s just me? Maybe I’m the one who has started taking seriously. Whatever it is, I just can’t look at Monopoly the same way I did when I was young.
I’m usually the Monopoly-police when we play Bek – anything that even remotely looks like cheating or getting too seriously heated and I call a stop to play. Probably over-doing it, but I’d rather that we enjoy the game than get too serious and cranky with one another.
Has anything taken the place of Monopoly for you though? Something a bit fun… enjoyed just like when you were young??

Mm, I think it was when parents decided they (or perhaps we?) were too old to play, they stopped moderating – and certain younger siblings took advantage of this!
I have to say, Cranium has become the new favourite in our household. Personally I love the little blob of play-dough you get in the set, and it’s a great team game for when friends come over!
We have Cranium and pull it out every so often, but it’s not really one of our favourites.
Glad to hear that you have found another great game you can enjoy Bek 🙂
