Have you met Jess of Epeheriell yet?
I personally *love* Jess’ blog – Epheriell Designs – chock-full of indie goodness, and heaps of very useful information for the micro-business owner.
Jess agreed to go Under The Spotlight, so we could learn a bit more about her awesome talent!
NAME: Jessica Van Den
AGE: 29
HOMETOWN: Brisbane, QLD, Australia
1) Tell us a little bit about yourself…
My name is Jessica Van Den, and I make jewellery under the brand of Epheriell.
I adore working with metal – my favourite material! Especially sterling silver, though I do use brass, copper and goldfill at times.
My style is both contemporary and classic – creating clean and stylish designs that can be worn every day. I’m also an Aussie who lives in the gorgeous Sunshine State – Queensland.
I started creating jewellery in 2008, with the normal beads and bits from the local craft store. I quickly moved onto using raw materials and doing a silversmithing course opened my eyes to a whole new range of possibilities.
I am also a total handmade and indie junkie – and I share my obsession at my blog – Epheriell Designs – ‘handmade style, indie art + design, and crafty resources’.
2) What time of day are you at your creative best?
Hmm, I would have to say usually mid-morning, and late evening. I’m a night person – you’ll rarely find me out of bed before 9 if I have a say in the matter – and rarely asleep before midnight. I often have insane creative urges strike late at night… but I have to hold off the hammering at that late hour!!
3) Where do you find your inspiration? Do you have any ‘rituals’ to help put you in the creative state-of-mind?
Honestly, I don’t know where my ideas come from – I think just surrounding myself with materials – and also with other crafty people and ideas – just keeps the creative ideas flowing.
I am a chronic multi-tasker – I’ll often flit between the computer and my materials during the day – I get bored easily and need to be busy!
4) How do you squeeze crafting into your busy life?
I am in the *extremely* fortunate position of being able to spend a lot of time on my craft. My husband and I are travelling around
Australia this year, and so if I have a lot of orders and need to work, we can just park up for a day while I make my orders, and travel
when I’m not. I have wireless internet to keep up with my orders, blog, e-mail, and online networks while we travel!
5) What are you working on now?
I’m currently making some new additions to my ‘Balance’ line of earrings.. I’ve also ordered some Goldfill wire to make some Gold
versions of my Urban Eco Earrings range – which I’m really excited about!!
6) What three tools could you not live without?
My hammer, my anvil… and my entire set of pliers!! Is that cheating? 😀
